BIS certification.

Check product coverage and current Quality Control Orders before choosing a certification route.

Scope before commitment Requirements explained
01 / THE BIG PICTURE

The right support.
With the details in view.

BIS compliance begins with the product, applicable standard and certification scheme. Product classification and current Quality Control Orders determine whether a compulsory route applies. Testing, manufacturing-site evidence and representation requirements are then mapped to that scheme, rather than treated as a single generic registration.

First, establish what applies

These are activity-specific checks, not a standard package for every business. Product classification, premises, capacity and state rules determine what applies.

What the scoped work can cover

  • Product and scheme applicability summary
  • Testing and application evidence plan
  • Certification-scope and ongoing-duty review
02 / GET READY

The documents.
A clearer starting point.

Use this as a preparation list for the initial review. The final checklist is confirmed against the applicant, service route, location and current authority requirements.

  1. 01

Manufacturer identity, factory address and applicant authorisation

  2. 02

Product models, technical specifications, intended use and relevant standard mapping

  3. 03

Production process, quality controls and testing-facility information where required

  4. 04

Recognised laboratory reports or proposed sample testing details for the selected scheme

  5. 05

Foreign manufacturer and Indian representative records where applicable

Share sensitive records only through an agreed secure channel after the engagement is confirmed. Do not send passwords, OTPs or signing keys.

03 / HOW IT MOVES FORWARD

One step.
Then the next.

A clear sequence, with room to resolve the details that are specific to your business.

  1. 01

    Identify product coverage

Check the product, current compulsory coverage and relevant standard or scheme.

  2. 02

    Plan evidence and testing

Review model grouping, laboratory route and manufacturing or representative documents.

  3. 03

    Coordinate the application

Organise the agreed submission, testing and inspection responses under the selected scheme.

  4. 04

    Review certification conditions

Record the permitted scope, marking instructions and surveillance or renewal duties if granted.

Scope, fees and timing are agreed after review. Document readiness, professional review and any authority queries affect the schedule. Statutory charges, testing, execution and other third-party costs are identified where relevant.

04 / BEYOND THIS STEP

Keep the next
responsibility in view.

Keep product and factory changes under review and maintain marking, surveillance, testing and validity records required by the granted scheme.

05 / A LITTLE MORE CLARITY

Good questions.
Useful answers.

01Does every product need BIS certification?+

No. Product coverage, current orders and the applicable scheme must be checked. Voluntary and compulsory routes are different.

02Does a foreign test report automatically qualify?+

Not necessarily. The scheme determines recognised laboratories, report acceptance, sample requirements and related conditions.

03Can certification for one model cover others?+

Model grouping and scope depend on the scheme and standard. Confirm the issued coverage before using a mark or marketing claim.
