BUILT AROUND YOUR KIND OF BUSINESS

Different businesses.
A plan that fits yours.

Start with your business category. See the registrations, ongoing filings and less obvious obligations worth reviewing.

YOUR STARTING POINT

Services & technology.

Consultancies, agencies, SaaS & freelancers

Keep your business structure, client relationships and tax records working together.

A discussion checklist
01

Start with

REGISTRATIONS & SETUP
  • Choose the business structure and relevant tax identifiers
  • Review GST applicability, including overseas supplies
  • Consider brand protection and client agreements
02

Keep on top of

RECURRING RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Books, invoicing and income tax filings
  • Applicable GST returns and TDS compliance
  • Entity-specific annual and event filings
03

Also review

BEYOND THE CORE ACTIVITY
  • State premises registrations and professional tax
  • Employee, payroll and workplace obligations
  • Privacy, data handling and cross-border payment requirements

Your legal structure adds another layer. A company, LLP, partnership and sole proprietor do not share the same governance and annual filing obligations.

This is a starting point, not a list of everything legally required. Applicability depends on your activity, entity, location, turnover, products and workforce.

THE THINGS BEYOND YOUR CORE BUSINESS

A business licence
is only part of the picture.

What sits around your main activity deserves a place in the plan too. These are six areas to assess as your business grows.

01
THE EVERYDAY FOUNDATION

Tax & financial records

Books, income tax, advance tax and TDS / TCS; plus GST returns, reconciliations and invoicing where applicable.

Review: income, turnover, transactions and registration status.
02
BEHIND THE BUSINESS

Entity & governance

Company or LLP annual filings, audit coordination, statutory records and filings when directors, partners or ownership change.

Review: legal structure, financial year and corporate events.
03
WHEN YOUR TEAM GROWS

People & payroll

Salary records, payroll deductions, EPF / ESI coverage, workplace policies, POSH and relevant contractor obligations.

Review: establishment coverage, workforce, wages and location.
04
WHERE YOU OPERATE

Premises & local rules

Shops & Establishments, professional tax, trade permissions, fire safety and other local approvals relevant to the premises.

Review: state, municipality, activity and premises use.
05
THE RELATIONSHIPS YOU BUILD

Customers, contracts & data

Customer terms, vendor and employee agreements, IP ownership, privacy practices and relevant consumer or data protection duties.

Review: how you sell, contract, collect data and use intellectual property.
06
WHAT CONTINUES AFTER APPROVAL

Products, waste & renewals

Product declarations, licence conditions, environmental reporting, covered EPR obligations and applicable renewal requirements.

Review: product category, business role and approval conditions.

Relevant, not automatic. Some items are mandatory only when specific conditions are met; others are optional protection or recognition. A qualified review should separate what is required now, what is recurring and what can wait.

Let’s talk about your business
01Can you help with GST, income tax and business registration?

Yes. The directory covers business setup, GST registration and returns, business and individual income tax filing, TDS / TCS, bookkeeping, company and LLP filings, conversions, business closure, people-related compliance, trademarks, patents, legal documents and industry approvals. The scope and relevant professional involvement are agreed after reviewing your requirements.

02Does every business need GST registration?

No single rule covers every business. Turnover, type of supply, state, exemptions and specific registration provisions all matter. Online selling or having a company does not, by itself, give a complete answer. Start with an applicability review rather than a standard registration package.

03What compliance is needed apart from my main business licence?

Review six areas: tax and accounts; entity governance; people and payroll; premises and local rules; customers, contracts and data; and products, environmental duties and renewals. The business-category guide helps you start this discussion, but does not determine your legal obligations.

04Are income tax returns, GST returns and ROC filings the same?

They are separate obligations. Income tax concerns the taxpayer’s income, GST concerns the relevant supplies and registrations, and company or LLP filings concern the legal entity. Completing one does not automatically complete the others.

05Do the same rules apply to a proprietor, partnership, LLP and company?

No. The legal structure changes the governance, annual reporting and audit considerations. Industry, state, turnover, transactions and employee coverage add further conditions. Select your structure in the business guide to see which layer needs attention.

06Do filings stop if my business has no revenue?

Not automatically. A company or LLP may still have entity-level annual obligations, and a tax registration can carry filing requirements even in a period with no activity. Review the actual entity and registration status before assuming that no return or payment is due.

07How do I get a plan specific to my business?

Share your business activity, legal structure, state or operating locations, products or services, turnover range and whether you employ people. These inputs help separate initial registrations, recurring filings and activity-specific approvals. Do not share identity documents or sensitive financial records through this preview.

08Can you help change or close an existing business?

The directory includes changes to directors, partners, names, offices, business activities, agreements and capital, along with structure transitions and closure reviews. The available route depends on eligibility, liabilities and records. A transition may need a new entity and business transfer, and entity closure does not automatically cancel tax registrations.

09Which legal documents and IP services can I explore?

Explore trademark search, registration, objections, opposition, assignment and renewal, plus patent, design and copyright work. Legal documents cover employment, founders and shareholders, commercial contracts, leases, finance records, notices and website policies. The content and professional scope are tailored to the actual matter.

10Is The Compliance Hub a government organisation?

No. The Compliance Hub is an independent advisory business, not a government authority. Government portals can be used directly. Approval decisions sit with the relevant authority, and tax or regulatory treatment requires a current review of your circumstances.
